Investigators carried various boxes full of possible evidence from the villa where Block lives with ex-sports presenter Gerhard Delling and loaded them into their civilian vehicles. It is unknown how many objects were the focus of the searches. The public prosecutor’s office did not comment further.

However, when asked by MOPO, she confirmed that “due to the events on New Year’s Eve, several people, including Ms. Block, are being investigated on suspicion of kidnapping minors and other crimes,” said a spokeswoman. Therefore, several search warrants “that are connected to what happened” were executed on Friday.

The dispute between Block and Hensel has been raging for many years: first a district court ruled in Hensel’s favor, but then the higher regional court granted Block the right to determine his place of residence in a preliminary decision. Problem: The children did not return from vacation with their father in Denmark, where Hensel has lived for years. Danish authorities eventually investigated themselves and also questioned the children. Ultimately, a Danish court ruled that the children should stay with their father. According to German law, however, they should have been returned to the care of their mother.

Kidnapping from Denmark

According to the police, on New Year’s Eve the children were forcibly taken away from their father as he watched the fireworks with them in Gravenstein, Denmark: eight men are said to have come out of the darkness, beat him and kidnapped the two children. A few hours later, Theodor (10) and Klara (13) showed up at mother Christina Block’s house.

In an urgent decision, the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court (OLG) ordered that the children must return to their father: The family court’s decision was not about punishing a parent for injustice committed, but only about the interests of the children. They should not be uprooted again after two and a half years in Denmark. Block bowed to the verdict and Hensel picked up his son and daughter at a Rahlstedt police station.

Meanwhile, the Hamburg public prosecutor’s office continues to try to bring Hensel to court in Hamburg because of the original abduction of minors, special offense “withholding of children abroad”. A lawsuit was filed with the district court in May 2023, but in November it decided not to open the proceedings.
