Christian Rabaud appointed as Director General of Health in France

When asked for a few minutes of his day, Christian Rabaud gives them lip service, admitting that he is somewhat busy “with small reorganizations”. The infectiologist and president of the establishment medical commission of the CHRU of Nancy has just been appointed, this Wednesday morning in the Council of Ministers, Director General of Health in France. He succeeds Jerome Solomon who just a few days ago joined the management of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva.

At the heart of the administration of the Ministry of Health, Professor Rabaud intends to strive to carry out the directives set out by the Minister Francois Braun. “It is a question of developing the axes of prevention in all its dimensions, he specifies, in the human, veterinary and environmental directions. Everything that impacts man: the problems of water, air, pollutants, waste on health. It is also all about prevention in the classic sense of the term, on tobacco, alcohol, junk food, obesity…”

Accessibility to the healthcare system for the most vulnerable people is also one of the priorities set by the Minister and therefore by the new Director General of Health. The Nancy announces that he will have to “restructure the DGS so that it can carry out all of its missions, even in a crisis situation”.

Christian Rabaud is due to take up his new duties at the beginning of May. He intends to take his time before starting “the many projects”.
