Chris Christie Claims Nikki Haley Would ‘Eat Glass’ to be Trump’s VP, Polls Show Tough Odds in NH Primary

The former governor of New Jersey and hopeful candidate for the Republican nomination, Chris Christie, says that Nikki Haley would “eat glass” for the chance to become Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate in the race to beat Joe Biden in the presidential election.

Christie claims he has spoken with an unnamed South Carolina politician “who knows her very well” and that this person suggested Haley would jump at the chance to be former President Trump’s running mate.

– I said: ‘Am I wrong?’. And he said to me: ‘Governor, she would eat glass to be the vice presidential candidate under Trump’. That’s how ambitious she is, says Christie in an interview.

“Can’t beat him”

The former New Jersey governor, who has ruled out being Trump’s vice presidential running mate, praises Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for also closing the door on becoming Trump’s vice president.

– DeSantis should be praised for this. He said that under no circumstances would he become vice president under Trump. Nikki Haley won’t say that, Christie continued.

Although Haley usually refrains from explicitly ruling out the possibility, she has repeatedly said, “I’m not competing for second place.”

Rumors that Haley could become Trump’s vice-presidential candidate have reached a high level in recent days, and Trump has asked some of his allies what they think about including Haley on the list, reports CBS.

Some of Trump’s allies, including Donald Trump Jr. and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, have warned of an uprising if Haley is elected vice president, write New York Post.

– Nikki Haley can’t beat him because she doesn’t want to. If lightning struck her tomorrow and she got the nomination, she would take it. But that’s not what she does it for, says Christie.

Tough odds

Christie’s outcome against Haley comes at the same time that the former UN ambassador is doing well in the polls in New Hampshire, a state that Christie has staked on in the election campaign.

With Haley in the way, the road to the Republican nomination becomes even steeper.

A chorus of Republicans who want Trump’s primary campaign to go down the drain have called on Christie to step down.

Among other things, a Haley-allied political action committee has publicly called on Christie to step down, on the grounds that the New Jersey Republican has “a useful influence on Trump.”

Tom Boucher, a former member of Christie’s New Hampshire steering committee, recently sided with Haley, arguing that she has a better chance of winning.

The governor of New Hampshire, who has supported Haley, has also publicly called on Christie to step down.

Underlying many of these calls is the belief that many of Christie’s voters will flock to Haley, bolstering her already tough odds to outdo Donald Trump in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire primary is scheduled for January 23. Trump averages 46.3 percent, followed by Haley at 24.8 percent and Christie at 10.5 percent, according to a new poll.
