Chinese Maxus e-Deliver 3 Electric Van’s Performance in Norway: 3-Year Review and Battery Degradation

Norway was one of the first European countries where Chinese manufacturers made their launch, because, not being part of the EU, they could obtain the necessary certifications more quickly, but also because the huge interest in electrics in this country motivated them even more . So now, in Norway, in addition to the new and high-performance Chinese models that make their presence felt more and more in Europe, there are also models with a longer history of exploitation, which can show how resistant they have proven to be over time or how much their battery degraded in the cold climate of this Scandinavian country.

Well, a Norwegian YouTuber managed to explore a Chinese Maxus e-Deliver 3 electric van, which he also tested 3 years ago as a new car. During the last 3 years and 60 thousand km, however, the van has been subjected to absolutely ruthless exploitation, to a level where even the steel of the loading compartment has dozens of bends from the manner in which objects were thrown into it.

The car was leased to an electric scooter company and apparently the employees of that company didn’t care about their scooters or the car they had in their fleet. And so this Chinese van ended up enduring unimaginable conditions. And if it survived in such conditions, it’s probably a good sign.

The biggest wear and tear is visible on its bodywork, everywhere. The electric propulsion system, however, seems absolutely functional, as does the battery. The technologies are much more basic on this model, it being designed at the time as a kind of elementary and simple, maximally cheap van. So there are many quirks, such as the need to pull a mechanical handbrake to lock the car, or the lack of eloquent information displayed on the car’s dashboards.

The car heating is switched on from the button, connected or disconnected, without temperature adjustment. Everything is so spartan!

Battery degradation does not seem to be very serious, although it does not provide very accurate parameters. However, the car traveled 206.1 km from 100% to 4%, in a realistic regime on highways, at higher speeds, and the theoretical autonomy promised by the new car is 235 km. So, given the variations in advance conditions, it is not very far.

And the subsequent charging at home showed that the battery accepted about 51.1 kWh, maybe even a little more, so its capacity seems to have remained very close to the original parameters, which is surprising, at how carelessly the car has been operated .

In the end, the van is anyway bizarre and so spartan that it is hard to say that you can drive it for pleasure, but it seems that at least on the electric propulsion side it has lasted well in Norway for the first 3 years, without noticeable degradation of battery, although its very simplicity does not allow the connection of some devices for exact measurements.
