Chinese Foreign Minister meets with Irish counterpart – Xinhua English.news.cn

GUIYANG, May 31 (Xinhua) – Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Irish Foreign Minister and Defense Minister Simon Coveney on Sunday, in Guiyang, capital of the Chinese province of Guizhou (south-east).

Mr. Wang said that the relations between China and Ireland have enjoyed a healthy and stable development and have become more and more mature. The two sides can fully leverage their respective advantages to strengthen international cooperation against the COVID-19 pandemic and maintain smooth and stable industrial and supply chains, to help accelerate the recovery of the global economy.

China attaches great importance to Ireland’s unique role and influence in international and regional affairs, Wang said, adding that Ireland is a stable and strong force in the European Union and will continue to play a positive role in the development of healthy and stable relations between China and the European Union.

For his part, Mr Coveney said Ireland was China’s staunch friend in Europe and was willing to be a reliable partner. The Irish side hopes for the improvement and development of relations between the European Union and China. End
