Chinese Family Bill, Parents Will Be Punished If Children Do Bad Things

Jakarta

Parliament China will consider laws punishing parents (ortu) if their children behave very badly or commit crimes. It is contained in the draft law (RUU) for the development of family education.

Reported Reuters, Monday (10/18/2021) in the bill it is stated that the guardian will be reprimanded and ordered to undergo a family education development program, if the prosecutor finds very bad or criminal behavior in the children under his care.

“There are many reasons for youth to misbehave, and lack or improper family education is the main cause,” said Zang Tiewei, spokesman for the Legislative Affairs Commission under the National People’s Congress (NPC).

The bill for the promotion of family education will be discussed at the NPC Standing Committee meeting this week. The bill also urges parents to set time for their children to rest, play and exercise.

Beijing has taken on more assertive paternity responsibilities this year. Such as overcoming children’s addiction to online games, which are considered a form of ‘spiritual addiction’, to suppressing the ‘blind’ worship of internet celebrities.

In recent months, the education ministry has restricted gaming hours for minors. The rule allows them to play online games for one hour on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.

This rule has also reduced homework and banned after-school tutoring for major subjects during weekends and holidays. It was created out of concern about the heavy academic burden on overwhelmed children.

At the same time, China urge young men China to be less ‘feminine’ and more ‘manly’.

In its “Proposal to Prevent the Feminization of Adolescent Boys” issued in December, the Ministry of Education urged schools to promote on-campus sports such as football.
