China’s Super Golden Week: Macau Hotels Fill Up Amidst High Tourism Predictions

China’s Super Golden Week is approaching, and it will once again be difficult to find a hotel room in Macau hotels.

According to a report by “Sing Tao Daily” on Monday (September 25), this year is the first National Day Golden Week after the return of the coronavirus epidemic. The Macau Tourism Bureau predicts that the number of tourists visiting Macau during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays this year will be very large. By then, the average daily passenger volume may reach 100,000 in August.

According to statistics from Sing Tao Daily, as of September 24, almost all Macau casino hotels in Cotai were full. Some popular hotel rooms have been sold out from September 30 to October 2, including the Venetian and The Parisian owned by Sands China, MGM Macau and MGM Cotai owned by MGM China, and Wynn Macau of Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, among others.

When asked, Sands China President Wang Yingwei said that because the National Day eve this year falls on the weekend and the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, the National Day Golden Week holiday will start as early as the end of September. According to the predictions of the Macau Tourism Bureau, the number of arrivals during the Golden Week period is quite optimistic. The current booking situation of Sands hotels is very good, with a booking rate of over 80% to 90%.

Ma Haowen, vice chairman of Success Global, which operates the “Ponte 16” casino project in Macau, said that in response to the summer vacation effect, Macau’s overall gaming revenue growth trend in August was satisfactory. However, due to the recent typhoon and black rain, gaming revenue in September is expected to will be flat on a monthly basis.
