Xinhua News Agency Authoritative Express | “Dream”: my country’s first ocean drilling ship officially named and put on trial – Xinhuanet
On December 18, the first ocean drilling ship independently designed and built by my country was officially named “Dream” and made its first trial voyage in Nansha, Guangzhou.
Ocean drilling is known as the “crown” of ocean technology. The “Dream” was built in close collaboration with the China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources and more than 150 units. It has a total tonnage of approximately 33,000 tons, an endurance of 15,000 nautical miles, and a self-sustainability of 120 days. It has unlimited navigation operations in global waters and drilling capabilities of 11,000 meters in sea areas.
As a “national weapon” to ensure national energy security and a “core weapon” to support the construction of a maritime power, the “Dream” will provide equipment support for the industrialization of deep-sea combustible ice exploration and mining.
