China Reveals Name of Moon Mission Spacecraft and Lander, Set to Deliver Crew by 2030

China Manned Space Agency she revealed the name of the spacecraft and the lander that should deliver a crew of two to the surface of our natural satellite in the foreseeable future.

The spacecraft was named Mengzhou (“vessel of dreams”), while the lander Lanyue (“embracing the moon”), which is according to CNN a reference to a poem written by Mao Zedong in 1965.

According to available information, Mengzhou would be almost 9 meters long and weigh 22 tons. The lander was then designed to accommodate a two-hundred-kilogram rover in addition to the astronauts.

First the robots, then the humans

It is a very ambitious plan, however, the development of both of the aforementioned devices is reportedly progressing very well, and the mission could theoretically be carried out by 2030.

Even before humans (specifically in 2028), however, a kind of regolith brick maker should be sent to the moon, as well as a robot that can assemble an early prototype of the future research station at the South Pole from these bricks.

Recall that the US would like to land on the moon in two years, however, it is facing a number of problems and currently another delay seems much more likely.
