Shanghai (China), Feb 26 (EFE) .- China registered 6 new cases of coronavirus this Thursday, all of them imported, and no contagion by local transmission, the National Health Commission reported today.

These positives from abroad were detected in the municipality of Shanghai (east, 4) and in the province of Canton (southeast, 2).

On the other hand, the health authorities also reported the detection of another 6 asymptomatic infections, all of them coming from abroad. The total of this type of infections under observation is 270, of which 252 are “imported”.

Likewise, the National Health Commission detailed that, until last local midnight (16:00 GMT on Thursday), 43 patients were discharged. The total number of active infected in mainland China stood at 244, of which 1 is serious.

The institution noted that, since the start of the pandemic, 89,877 people have been infected in the country, of which 4,636 died.

To date, 977,734 close contacts with infected have been followed up, of which 7,828 continue to be observed.

Since the end of last December, northeast China suffered several outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2, the worst since March 2020, with which the authorities applied selective confinements, carried out massive tests in the most affected areas and quarantined the close contacts to those infected.

Those measures managed to contain the outbreaks, which ran the risk of worsening with the displacements planned for the lunar New Year festivities in early February.

Consequently, the Asian country decreed on Monday that all areas previously considered medium risk are already low risk and that there are no high risk areas at this time.

Meanwhile, the total number of infected in the semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong amounted to 10,926 people since the start of the pandemic, of which 198 died. EFE
