China and Turkey are helping Pakistan in the defense. The influx of aid from China and Turkey comes amid a crisis over rising debt of the Imran Khan government in Pakistan. China launched its second state-of-the-art warship for Pakistan in Shanghai last week. Turkey, Pakistan’s best friend of all time, is building a third MILGEM class ship for them at the Naval Shipyard in Istanbul.
In August last year, China built the first Type 054 warship for Pakistan. A total of four warships of this category were built by China for Pakistan. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan jointly inaugurated the construction of the MILGEM class warship. Four MILGEM class warships will be built for the Turkish and Pakistani navies.
Senior officers of the Pakistan Navy are regular visitors to Ankara and Beijing. Last October, the Pakistani naval ship Zulfikar arrived in the Turkish port of Aqsa. The Pakistani warship was on its way to participate in the Turkish-led anti-submarine warfare exercise. Last March, another Pakistani naval vessel, the Yarmouk, also visited the Turkish port of Golkuk. Pakistan has also discussed the Kashmir issue with senior Turkish naval officials.
‘Pakistan is expanding its navy. China is providing aid to Pakistan while protecting their interests. “China’s goal is to strengthen satellite surveillance in the Indian Ocean region,” said Ranjit B Rai, former director of Indian Naval Intelligence and Operations.
Not only India but also Joe Biden’s US government is closely monitoring China, Turkey and Pakistan cooperation. The Aman 2021 naval exercise to be held this month in the port of Karachi, Pakistan is also being watched by the world community. In addition to China and Turkey, Russia is also participating in the exercise.
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is set to meet to decide on the allegations against Pakistan. The naval exercise will take place during the FATF yoga session from 22 to 25 February. There are strong rumors that the FATF will blacklist Pakistan for financially aiding terrorists.
