Children’s wards in Italy are full of people infected with respiratory syncytial virus

Patients arrive at the hospital on day 6-7 of the positive test

Children’s wards in Italy are full of children infected with respiratory syncytial virus, the Italian agencies ANSA and ADN Kronos reported.

Italian virologist and immunologist Roberto Burioni reminds that every autumn this virus leads to full children’s wards and poses a danger to the weakest children. The virus was discovered in the 1950s and there is still no effective vaccine against it, BTA reports.

According to Fabio Midula, president of the Italian Association for Children’s Respiratory Diseases, this year’s epidemic of the virus came two months earlier than expected.

He was talked about these days in Italy, as the several-month-old daughter Vitoria of the famous influencers and millionaires – Chiara Ferrani and Fedetz – was infected with it. The child was admitted to hospital on October 24 and every day his parents posted on social networks several times updated information about his condition. Eventually it improved and the child was discharged yesterday. And on Instagram, Fedets wrote: “If you have small children, be careful! This virus is not a joke.”

Respiratory syncytial virus is common and can affect people of all ages, but is more common in infections in children and newborns. The virus can cause bronchitis and pneumonia in children.
