Children pick up nearly 1.5 tons with TV action for koalas in Australia NOW

Have kids with the TV promotion Zapp Your Planet: SOS Koala raised 145,027 euros in a week for help to koalas in Australia. The amount was announced on Saturday evening by the presenters Klaas van Kruistum, Saskia Weerstand and Anne-Mar Zwart.

Zapp Your Planet is an annual promotion by NPO Zapp to raise children ‘s awareness. Recurring themes are endangered species, the climate and the environment. Over the past week, thousands of children in the Netherlands have taken all kinds of campaigns to raise money.

“It is heart-warming to see how children have done the koala challenge en masse, have taken action in their own playful way or have donated money,” said Robert Fortuijn, NPO Zapp’s network manager.

The entire Saturday at NPO Zapp was all about Australia. Hundreds of children were in Hilversum today. More than eleven thousand euros were donated there. The children were able to deposit the collected money in a special Eucalyptus tree in the TV studio.

Money is used for, among other things, koalas

Femke Hilderink of the WWF Netherlands: “Thanks to all the great actions of children in the Netherlands we can plant around twelve thousand saplings so that koalas will soon have a home again.”

The money is used for, among other things, tracing koalas and for receiving wounded koalas. WWF pays food drops in national parks for hungry kangaroos and other endangered animals so that they can survive until nature recovers.

The promotion runs until Saturday, February 8.
