Children and adolescents in BW more and more affected – SWR news

The delta variant in Baden-Württemberg continues to spread – the younger generation is particularly affected. The incidence has decreased slightly, but the so-called hospitalization incidence is increasing.

A quarter of the corona infections in the past seven days have been registered in children or adolescents. The proportion of infected people over the age of 60, on the other hand, is only seven percent, said the State Health Office (LGA) on Monday in Stuttgart.

Seven-day incidence increased week-on-week

Although the office has observed an increase in infections and the so-called seven-day incidence – i.e. the recorded infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week – since the beginning of July, this value initially fell slightly on Monday. According to the LGA, the nationwide incidence was 77.9 after 78.5 the previous day (as of 4 p.m.). A week ago it was 47.9.

Six counties have now passed the incidence mark of 100. The urban district of Heilbronn continues to have the highest incidence with 143.1, followed by the urban district of Baden-Baden with 124.4 and Mannheim with 106.2. The lowest incidence of infections nationwide is currently in the district of Emmendingen with an incidence of 36.6.

Around 600 new infections, more corona cases in intensive care units

The authority registered 604 new infections and again two new deaths in connection with the corona virus in Baden-Württemberg. This means that 526,422 people in the country have been proven to be infected with the virus, 10,473 deaths are related. An estimated 501,568 people are considered recovered, 435 more than the day before.

According to the information, there are currently 123 Covid 19 patients in the intensive care units in Baden-Württemberg. That is eight more than the day before and 21 more than last Friday. According to the LGA, 4.5 percent of the operable intensive care beds in the country are occupied with Covid 19 cases, on Friday it was 3.7 percent. The so-called hospitalization is now said to have greater weight when assessing the situation: This value, i.e. the seven-day hospitalization incidence in the country, is currently 2.37 (one week ago: 1.31).
