Checo Pérez wins lawsuit against Pemex – Telemundo Dallas (39)

MEXICO CITY – The Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez, of the Red Bull team in the 2021 Formula One season, won a lawsuit for $ 2.8 million against the state oil company Pemex, for having breached an agreement to sponsor him.

Pérez, fifth in the Formula One championship driver classification, sued MGI Asistencia Integral, an outsourcing company of Petróleos Mexicanos, for more than 56 million pesos, after it breached a contract signed in 2018.

Pemex had sponsored Pérez in previous Formula One seasons, but after the change of government in 2018, the company claimed to have other priorities and in 2019 it no longer appeared among the 31-year-old’s sponsors.

The daily Reforma noted that the federal court ruling includes the payment of late payment interest that will be calculated later.

“Checo” became the first Mexican to win a Formula One race in half a century in December last year, by winning the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain, a feat he repeated last June, by winning the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan.

The Red Bull Formula One team showcased their race car on the streets of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as performing a daring stunt with an inverted plane.

The Mexican, who started this year with Red Bull with the Dutch Max Verstappen as teammate, is focused on delivering good performances in the campaign to improve his fifth place and, if things go well, bet on third place in the classification of pilots.

By teams, Pérez and Verstappen are in second place with 364.5 points, and they intend to pass Mercedes, with the British Lewis Hamilton and the Finn Valtteri Bottas, who add 397.5 points.

The next three stops of the season will be in Istanbul, Turkey and Austin, United States; in October, and at the Mexican Grand Prix, on November 7.
