Checking the balance is subject to a fee, YLKI: It’s called saving you want to get profit instead of getting lucky

Eramuslim.com – The policy of the State-Owned Bank Association (Himbara), which will charge customers when checking balances, is considered strange by the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI).

The head of the YLKI Daily Executive, Tulus Abadi, actually considered that there was a paradox when the levy was deemed aimed at the convenience of customers.

“What, what is comfort? Is there a survey related to this? Weird bin magic. That’s a one-sided claim, on behalf of the consumer. A paradoxical claim, ”he told reporters, Sunday (23/5).

What actually happened, said Tulus, was that the banks wanted to make administrative costs their main income. This is certainly not fair to customers.

“If you look closely, the life of a bank only relies on admin fees from customers. Let’s take a closer look, each customer per month at least Rp.14,000 is deducted. Not for other costs, such as taxes. So after a while the customer’s money runs out of administrative costs. This is called saving for a profit, instead of being lucky, ”he said.

He added that every time a customer checks the balance and is charged a fee by the bank, it will be detrimental to the customer.

“The more consumers come up short, the balance is getting eroded. Then what’s the point of keeping money in the bank? Better keep it on the mattress. Therefore, this discourse must be rejected because it is an exploitative policy, “he said.

In an effort to support the acceleration of non-cash transactions, the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) will make a number of adjustments for customers transacting at ATMs.

As of June 1, 2021, four state-owned banks, namely BRI, BNI, BTN, and Bank Mandiri, will charge a fee of IDR 2,500 per transaction when customers check their balance at ATM Link.

Meanwhile, cash withdrawals will be charged IDR 5 thousand per transaction. [RMOL]
