“Hi great Mirko. If you can, from up there, keep sending us your smile, because we still need it.” With this message, posted on his Facebook page, Checco Zalone says goodbye to Mirko Toller, the boy suffering from SMA (spinal muscular atrophy), with whom he had shot two videos in 2016 and 2017, who died today at the age of 17.
In the spot, which had immediately collected millions of views, made to support the fundraising for the national association Families Sma, Zalone had chosen irreverent tones, overturning the values on which he generally uses to induce people to donate. Not pity and compassion then, but the selfish desire to heal those affected by the disease to make life easier for themselves.
