Châteauroux hospital convicts a former ambulance attendant for defamation

This day of April 2020, the ambulance attendant is called by the SAMU who asks her to go look for a man suffering from breathing difficulties. Very quickly, with his colleague, she is convinced that this patient has Covid. Yet it is an unprotected ambulance that is used and who is referred to conventional emergencies. It was not until 20 minutes after their arrival that they were redirected to the Covid unit. A muscular telephone exchange ensued with the SAMU. And an equally heated interview between the colleague and the emergency manager.

Handle social media with care

Very reassembled, the ambulance attendant poured out on her Facebook wall accusing the hospital of having done anything, of having lied and of having endangered its crew. The message will be withdrawn quickly under pressure from the young woman’s employer. It will have been read by 51 people. At the bar, the defendant regrets getting carried away. She said she was unaware that she could be convicted for posting on the internet. As in echo, Maria De Sousa, the lawyer of the hospital center, declares during her plea: “You have to handle social networks with care. You can be sued for a message!”

The paramedic was finally found guilty of defamation but exempted from punishment. The president of the court felt that she had understood her mistake and that the damage had been repaired since the message had disappeared from social networks. It also indicates that she has somehow already paid: the young woman was fired because of its publication. She is still unemployed today.
