Charles Michel’s quarantine requires postponement of the European Council

“The President of the European Council today learned that one of his security guards, with whom he had close contact at the beginning of last week, tested positive for covid-19,” announced Charles Michel’s spokesman, Barend Leyts, in a communication through the social network Twitter.

The spokesman adds that “in compliance with Belgian rules [adotadas devido ao surto de covid-19], Charles Michel is in quarantine as of today “, despite being” regularly tested and accused negative yesterday [segunda-feira]”.

Charles Michel’s isolation makes it impossible to conduct the work at the meeting of heads of government and state of the European Union scheduled for this Thursday and Friday in Brussels.

For this reason, the president of the European Council decided to postpone the summit until 1 and 2 October, the spokesman said, in the same publication on Twitter.

Portuguese-Spanish summit postponed

The rescheduling of the European Council for 1 and 2 October also led to the postponement of the Portuguese-Spanish Summit.

António Costa and Pedro Sánchez were to meet on October 2 in the city of Guarda.

There is still no new date for the Iberian meeting.
