This year, the range of powerful Volkswagen R-models will be significantly expanded. Following the new generation all-wheel drive hot hatch Volkswagen Golf R, which will be shown in the coming months, the Tiguan R crossover and the Arteon R liftback will see the light. A pre-production version of the latter was recently noticed on the Nurburgring track with other R-models, new top version is not so simple. It may seem that we are faced with a standard Arteon with an optional external R-Line package, however, a number of details give out the future full-fledged erk in it.
If you look closely, you can see four large exhaust pipes and a new front bumper – it is increased air intakes. The rear bumper, judging by the wide overlays of white, is also changed. However, it is possible that a similar kit will appear not only on liftbacks with the prefix R, because such a modification will be presented along with restyling of the standard model closer to the end of the year. Also, the prototype can be seen silver body side mirrors and blue painted brake calipers.
What engine will get the “charged” Arteon? It cannot be ruled out that under its hood there will be the same two-liter turbo four as the “hot” Golf, the output of which will reach 333 hp. However, there is a possibility that a much heavier liftback can boast a 400-horsepower three-liter VR6 biturbo engine. No matter what the engine will be, there is no doubt that the “robot” DSG will work with it. However, such machines may not reach Russia: even the civilian Arteon has not yet been brought to us, although the model is already certified.
