Travelers have decided: Changi Airport in Singapore is the world’s best airport. Two German airports are among the winners of the World Airport Awards 2023.
The British consulting company Skytrax has once again voted Changi Airport in Singapore the best airport in the world. To the award winners World Airport Awardsawarded on March 15th as part of the Airport Fair Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam, also includes two German airports.
This is the 12th time that passengers and visitors have voted Changi Airport, around 12 kilometers east of Singapore, as the best airport in the world. The airport, known according to Skytrax for its “unmatched passenger experiences”, last received the award three years ago.
Because of “stink fruit”: Plane turns back shortly after takeoff
Hamad International Airport comes in second. The airport in the Qatari capital Doha, valued for its architecture and luxurious ambience, according to Skytrax, has been the world’s best in each of the past two years. Last year’s runner-up, Tokyo-Haneda, secured third place.
Two German award winners
Munich Airport “Franz Josef Strauss” achieved the highest ranking among the German candidates: 7th place. With more than 150 retail shops and around 50 bars, it is “like a city center”, according to Skytrax. Travelers get “a lot to see” on the site and can “do a lot” here.
In addition to Munich, three other local airports made it into the top 100 in the world: the airports in Düsseldorf (21st place), Frankfurt/Main (25th place) and Hamburg (38th place).
Both World Airport Awards prizes are awarded in more than 70 categories, the candidates can also assert themselves in their respective region (North America, Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia, China) or receive awards in individual service areas (airport hotel, shopping facilities, family friendliness).
Rental car abroad: Relaxation in sight?
Two of the German airports were also able to snag one or the other prize. According to respondents, Munich Airport has the best airport staff in Europe and is the best airport in Central Europe, while Dusseldorf Airport has the “best regional airport in Europe”.
