Chandrayaan-3: 3D picture of Moon’s surface will win your heart, ISRO showed new color of Moon

Bangalore. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Tuesday released a 3-dimensional ‘anaglyph’ image of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander from the Moon’s south pole. This image shows the left image within the red channel and the right image within the blue and green channels, resulting in an attractive cyan color.

The space agency said on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), ‘The anaglyph Navcam stereo image presented here includes the left and right images taken from the Pragyan rover.’ ISRO said that the camera from which this picture was taken was on the Pragyan rover. Anaglyph actually means a simplified view of an object or terrain in 3-D from stereo or multi-view images.

ISRO said, ‘In this 3-channel image, the left image is placed in the red channel, while the right image is placed in the blue and green channels (creating space). The difference in perspective between these two images results in a stereo effect, which appears to be viewed in 3D. Red and Cyan glasses are recommended for viewing in 3D.

ISRO had announced on Monday that the Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-3 mission went into hibernation at around 8 am Indian time. Earlier experiments were carried out at the new location by CHASTE, Rambha-LP and ILSA payloads. The data that was collected was sent to the earth. All payloads have been powered off and the lander’s receiver has been kept on.

ISRO had said that the ‘Vikram’ lander went further towards fulfilling its mission objectives. ISRO said that the important thing about the campaign is that this process has now raised hopes for future ‘sample’ return and manned mission to the Moon. ISRO had said, ‘Vikram went into inactive state near Pragyan after the solar power ran out and the battery stopped getting power. He is expected to be activated around September 22, 2023.

India created history on August 23 after the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3’s ‘Vikram’ lander on the surface of the Moon. India has become the fourth country to reach the surface of the Moon and the first country to reach its South Pole.
