Champions League | Leipzig trembles into the second round – CR7 clearly beats Messi

A wild Champions League evening comes to an end. RB Leipzig secured their ticket for the round of 16 with a 3-2 win against Manchester United, Juventus killed FC Barcelona and a racism scandal overshadowed the game in Paris.

A great performance by the Bundesliga club ended in a shaky final phase. 25 strong opening minutes gave Leipzig a clear lead, Angelino and Haidara brought the Bulls 2-0 up after just 13 minutes. Manchester United had no chance in this game for advancement.

When Justin Kluivert increased to the third goal after 69 minutes, the drop seemed to be sucked. A dubious penalty whistle after 80 minutes, which Bruno Fernandes converted, suddenly brought Manchester United back into play. Only two minutes later Paul Pogba heaved a header into the Leipzig goal to make it 3-2; United’s Harry Maguire touched the ball with his hand at Pogba’s header, however, this goal also fell happily from the perspective of the English.

Ultimately, however, Leipzig trembled to the deserved 3-2 victory and thus survived the group of deaths with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. However, it is still unclear who will follow Leipzig into the second round, as the parallel game in Paris was canceled.

In Paris, who are also fighting for progress, there was a scandal against Basaksehir. The 4th official insulted a coach of the guests as “Negro”, the game was interrupted after intensive discussions and not continued for a long time.

After just under an hour and a half, it is now clear that the game will no longer be continued. Basaksehir drives back to the hotel. The case now comes before the bodies of UEFA – a rating for Paris should be in the room, if Basaksehir did not want to continue the game or a replay.

In Barcelona it was no longer tabulated. The duel between Barca and Juventus is prestigious, however – especially since Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi faced each other again on the big stage after a long time.

The duel of perhaps the best footballers of all time ended in a clear defeat – for Lionel Messi and the Catalans. The former Schalke Weston McKennie scored for the old lady, CR7 also converted two penalties and won the duel between the “GOATs”.
