Chelsea had the ball more often on their feet since the opening minutes of the duel with Atletic. Reece James on the other hand, had a terrible day. With 19 minutes played, Timo Werner could have brought this one home for Timo Werner as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Atletica players were toothless in the attack, they could not prevail even after standard situations. Chelsea’s counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Atletico increased the pressure at the end of the half, but Joao Felix aimed only at the arms of Edouard Mendy.

With 48 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after Oblakov came through the middle, but his kick went wide.
