Chamber of Agriculture election in Salzburg: farmers’ union reaches 79 percent

The leading Bauerbund candidate and old and new president of the Salzburg Chamber of Agriculture, Rupert Quehenberger, saw the result as a sign of the unity of the Salzburg farmers. Now it is a matter of continuing to work for the farmers with the same intensity as before. One of the greatest challenges will be the EU’s common agricultural policy. “It is imperative that the framework conditions for the companies be improved,” he told APA. Achievements by farmers such as the high quality of food or the preservation of the cultural landscape would also have to be recognized and valued accordingly.

Independent farmers lose

The Independent Farmers’ Association (UBV) reached 12.7 percent (minus 5.9 percentage points) on Sunday and lost two of its five mandates to date. Top candidate Josef Tiefenbacher was disappointed in a first reaction. “It would have been important to break the great weight of the farmers’ association. But we don’t want to complain now, we want to continue.” For example, he called for stricter product labeling for processed foods in retail to make regional products easier for consumers to recognize.

Bravo Rupert! Competence, foresight, reliability and tremendous commitment show success! We are happy and congratulate !!!

FPÖ farmers defend mandate in Chamber of Agriculture

The Freedom Peasantry achieved 3.7 percent – a decrease of 2.3 percentage points. In doing so, the FPÖ farmers defended their previous mandate. “The farmers seem to be satisfied with the incumbent president,” said list leader Hannes Költringer shortly analyzing Sunday’s result. “The situation will not get any easier for farmers in the next few years, so I will continue to get involved in Parliament.” In the election campaign, Költringer had hoped for a second seat.

SPÖ farmers fall out of general assembly

The SPÖ farmers fell out of the assembly on Sunday. A decrease from 1.5 percentage points to 2.3 percent of the votes means the loss of their only mandate. “The result was unfortunately to be expected,” said top candidate Michael Leitner. Not only the candidacy of the Greens, but also the situation of the SPÖ at federal level would have cost the red farmers votes. However, 2.2 percent of the vote was not enough for a seat. Top candidate Ferdinand Oberascher was disappointed after the results were announced. “Farmers close their farms every day.

There is one reason why the representation of interests is that things are not going so well. “Nevertheless, a clear majority of the voters had expressed their trust in the farmers’ association. The figures published on Sunday evening are the preliminary end result including voting cards.
