Mcal. Estigarribia: Adalberto Fox, attorney representing Ms. Nélida Brizuela de Britos, filed a criminal complaint against the agricultural company Maehara with the Attorney General’s office last week for dealing with a forged signature.
The company, led by Víctor Maehara, intended to purchase the 1,340 hectare property from Ms. Nélida Brizuela de Britos in order to expand the adjacent property. She herself refused to sell her property, thus failing Maehara’s intention to expand his business area. However, according to Fox, the agribusiness hasn’t given up on its intentions.
The complaint states that a power of attorney to sell the property in a notary’s office with the signature of Ms. Nélida Brizuela de Britos was forged.
“With this false power of attorney and other manipulations by Nélida’s husband, Mr. Pedro Pablo Britos, Ms. Nélida’s property was sold to people at the ridiculous price of 74,000 garanies per hectare, who then transferred it to the Maehara company. The Maehara company deforested the property and then planted soy, ”said attorney Fox.
Fox, who used to be a judge, pointed out that official documents could be forged and that this could be punished with up to 10 years in prison.
The advert provided comprises 81 pages. The lawyer received threats from people close to the company after the complaint. He was warned that Maehara is a “powerful corporation capable of buying out all the institutions and organs of justice.”
