Cervantino Festival focusing on South Korean music, dance and group

The program opens with the presentation of the State Music Band of Guanajuato with a very varied concert and the orchestral accompaniment of four renowned singers.

Both in the instrumental part and in the repertoire of the performers, the compositions will be appreciated by the worthy representative of the splendor of 19th century Guanajuato, Juventino Rosas, a man closely linked to Cuba, who died in Surgidero de Batabanó at the age of 26 and is recognized in all the world for his two great works, the waltzes Sobre las Olas and Carmen.

The band will perform great compositions by the always unforgettable María Grever, one of the greats of the Mexican pentagram, in particular boleros and novels, and by Joaquín Pardavé, famous actor but composer of incomparable talent, and will conclude with pieces by the prolific José Alfredo Jiménez, chronicler of the Mexican identity.

Another great and long-awaited show of this day will be the one offered by the dance group # Never21 coined by the Black Lives Matter movement, with which homage will be paid to the victims of armed violence in New York, Rio de Janeiro or Johannesburg, with victims of young people who have not reached the age of 21.

Three dancers will personify the words and evils suffered by the victims and their families. Like wandering spirits, the production script indicates, they will talk about their stolen and broken lives, moving from krump to electronic and from pop to contemporary dance.

Smaïl Kanouté, who leads them, is a multifaceted artist who mixes dance with the visual arts to transform his work into a kind of stage painting.

Twenty One, its title, is the first piece of a triptych that investigates the condition of the black community in different times and places, as well as the impact of colonialism and the persistence of ancestral rites as a means of affirming one’s identity .

Finally, the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), in collaboration with the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, will present Korea: Cubically Imagined.

It is a showcase of today’s leading creative voices in South Korea through various immersive environments.

The exhibition presents a wide range of experiences within 15 installations that propose new cultural narratives that transcend the boundaries between past and future, tradition and innovation.

Each of these will feature various digital technologies including augmented reality, virtual reality, video mapping projection, metaverse and other interactive media that invite visitors to explore the highlights of South Korean culture through art, design, music, cinema and more.
