Cerdon. The story of Jean-Baptiste Goiffon, child of the country who pioneered microbial theories, traced on stage

It is at the invitation of Paul Besson, president of the Pays de Cerdon, Ain valley association, that Yves Boucaud-Maitre will perform, Saturday, October 30, in the Cerdon village hall.

A biologist by trade, Yves Boucaud-Maitre also has the cap of an actor, author, historian, which led him to take an interest in this character, Jean-Baptiste Goiffon, born in 1658 in Cerdon. He retraced its history in a book and on stage, where he interprets, alone, this character who distinguished himself during the plague epidemic which raged in Provence in 1720. He is the only one to have demonstrated that this disease was due to microscopic beings and not to miasmas, or putrid gases, spread in the air. At the time, we were not talking about confinement, but quarantine to counter the disease.

A contribution to Cerdonnais heritage

“A play between narrative, history, comedy and tragedy, illustrated by projections and musical interludes. This is what Yves Boucaud-Maitre offers. It is at the same time a complete show, for all audiences, a fascinating story, and a contribution to Cerdonnais heritage.

His meeting with Paul Besson will thus have contributed to presenting his play in the country of birth of Goiffon, where his father was mayor and where he practiced for many years.

Performance on Saturday, October 30, at 8 p.m., at the Cerdon village hall. Open to all, free participation.
