Celebrating the Centenary of the Henner Museum: A Century of Art and Culture

If this year 2024 marks the hundredth anniversary of the Olympic Games held in Paris, it is also permissible to celebrate the centenary of the opening of the Henner museum. On March 7, 1924, the Minister of Public Education and Fine Arts, Léon Bérard, inaugurated the Jean-Jacques Henner national museum, almost 20 years after the death of the Alsatian master.
The result of a donation from Marie Henner née Dujardin, the artist’s niece by marriage, to the French state, the institution is designed on the model of the monographic museums founded at the beginning of the century, the Moreau and Rodin museums.
One hundred years after the donation, in 2023, the museum honored its founders: Jules Henner and his wife Marie, as well as the latter’s sister, Frédérique Dujardin. One hundred years after opening to the public, we wish to highlight the evolution of the institution during this century of existence and pay tribute to the women and men who worked for its development and its scientific and cultural influence in the service of audience.
