Celebrating Queen Rania Al Abdullah: A Look Back at Her Life and Activism

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists interacted on social media on the anniversary of the birth of Queen Rania Al Abdullah, wife of the Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, on Thursday. Below we show you a number of old and modern photos of her on this occasion:

According to her official website, “Rania Al-Yassin was born on August 31, 1970. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the American University in Cairo in 1991, she began her working life in the banking sector in Jordan and then worked in the field of information technology.”

On June 10, 1993, she married Prince – at that time – Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, who assumed his constitutional powers, as King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on February 7, 1999. Their Majesties were blessed by His Highness Prince Al-Hussein, Crown Prince, Princess Iman, Princess Salma and Prince Hashem.
