CDMX government and UNAM analyze developing it

In accordance with Rosaura Ruíz, Secretary for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sectei), this laboratory could be located in the Veterinary school, where there is already a space that could be adapted.

“Obviously, to vaccinate against a virus that is so special and so risky, such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus that produces the COVID-19 disease, a specialized laboratory is required where there is not the slightest possibility that it could be released or that there may be some contagion “, said.

For the creation of this laboratory, is participating the Institute of Biotechnology, the School of Medicine and the Veterinary school. The central project is from the UNAM and the Sectei going to contribute the resources.

The rector of the UNAM, Enrique GraueHe added that the laboratory model is advanced, but that there is still no date for its inauguration, since it has to be subjected to the processes of Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).

The local government also reported that a factory was built for N-95 masks which will soon deliver its first production. He stressed that the UNAM donated 22 thousand protection kits for residents of hospitals in the Mexico City: 10,000 will be delivered this Friday and 12,000 next week.
