An updated version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is just around the corner, which will include improved performance and mod integration on PC and consoles. CD Projekt Red talked about how these mods will work and the steps they have taken for the modders themselves. CD Projekt Red’s head of tech support Karolina “Vinthir” Niewenglowska took to the studio’s official forums to explain how the mods will work, as well as explaining how the developer supports modders whose mods it uses to update The Witcher 3: Next Generation Wild Hunt.

“We are including several popular mods in the update (they will be available depending on the platform). We have received permission from their creators, compensated them and they will appear in the credits of the updated game,” says Nevenglovska. “Mods have been reworked, assets have been optimized as needed, and the game has been adapted to work with them. There was even a case where a developer got so caught up in the hustle and bustle of adding a mod that they ended up redesigning that particular aspect of the game. So there are already some mods in the game.”

Nevenglovska also notes that some files have been changed in The Witcher 3 Next Generation Update, meaning that mods using those source files will stop working. However, CD Projekt Red has provided on the forum mod. listcurrently running with the next generation update.
