CD Projekt now gets 80% of The Witcher 3 profits on Steam

Steam is often criticized for its control over the PC video game sector. It must be said that a majority of players are turning to the platform, of undeniable quality, with very attractive prices. Without forgetting its very extensive community aspect with the possibility of rating games, adding friends, etc. Faced with this hegemony, Epic Games decided to launch its Epic Games Store with many arguments, such as games offered every week, (temporary) exclusives like Borderlands 3 or Metro: Exodus but above all the promise of higher incomes for developers!

But today, The Witcher 3 is an exception since CD Projekt now draws 80% of the profits from the game.

A possibility offered by the great popularity of the title. Usually the commission is 30%.

$ 50 million generated by The Witcher 3

CD Projekt will have benefited greatly from the craze around The Witcher series on Netflix. Because since the dissemination of the latter, sales for the third installment of the video game trilogy soar ! Spectators, very curious, no longer hesitate to relaunch The Witcher 3 or buy the game – which has lowered its price since its release. And with success, the latter reached the symbolic level of $ 50 million in profits.

As a result, CD Projekt has the honor of earning 80% of the game’s profits, reducing Valve’s commission from 30% to 20%. In other words, a big gain for the Polish studio, which has now become the second largest in Europe. The latter even took the opportunity to thank his fans through a Twitter publication visible below.

With this extra money in the boxes, let’s hope that Cyberpunk 2077 sees its development facilitated, especially when we know that the studio will use crunch, a practice that has been criticized lately after numerous scandals.

It is in any case appreciable to note that, in spite of the years, the players are still interested as much in The Witcher – and more precisely this third episode. The Polish studio will have built its success on this trilogy of many qualities. And no doubt sales should continue to soar on Steam with season 2 of the TV series on Netflix.
