The CD Project settled a dispute with a group of investors who were suing Polish developers over the catastrophic state of Cyberpunk 2077 after its release. According to a recent statement, both parties will eventually reach an out-of-court settlement – CD Projekt will pay the plaintiffs only 1.85 million US dollars. In exchange for financial compensation, all charges will be dropped.
Cash patch
The published statement states, among other things, that the Polish company entered into an out-of-court settlement in order to avoid the costs of litigation in the USA, regardless of the final court decision.
By comparison, in the first month alone, Cyberpunk earned over $ 563 million. He paid only $ 2.2 million to dissatisfied customers through a special campaign in which they could apply for a refund. The cost of developing the game (excluding marketing) was approximately $ 316 million.
Problematic issue
The expected title was released after a series of delays last December, accompanied by many technical issues (especially on the Xbox One and PS4 consoles), which ultimately resulted in the game being withdrawn from sale on the PlayStation Store and the Project CD failing.
Following the failed release, a group of US investors decided to file a lawsuit against the Polish company for violating federal law, which CD Projekt was supposed to do by deceiving investors about the true quality of the game.
In May this year, four lawsuits were merged into a single collective case, as was a joint prosecutor. However, with regard to out-of-court settlements, no proceedings will take place in the end.
