Causes of Stomach Pain in Children that Moms Need to Know

Apart from coughs and colds, stomach pain is also a disease that is often experienced by children. Although in general, complaints of stomach pain in children are not too severe, Moms should not underestimate this one problem.

Causes of Stomach Pain

The appearance of pain is the body’s way of telling someone that a problem is going on in the person’s body. No exception to stomach pain. However, when a child experiences stomach pain, the problem doesn’t always come from the stomach.

The abdominal area covers the entire area between the chest and pelvis. In that area there are so many organs. Well, problems in different organs can cause similar symptoms. Here are some of the common causes of stomach pain in children:

1. Constipation

Constipation is the main reason children have stomach pain. When the Little One has not defecated for a long time or has difficulty BAB, then he may suffer from constipation.

2. Diarrhea

Diarrhea is often caused by an infection that some people call the stomach flu. Stomach pain is one of the symptoms of diarrhea that makes children often go back and forth to the bathroom.

3. Other Stomach Problems

Stomach pain can also occur with urinary tract infections or blocked intestines. Infection by bacteria or parasites, heartburn, irritable bowel disease, or inflammatory bowel disease can also be the cause of stomach pain in children.

4. Food

Some children may also experience stomach aches as a result of eating too much, eating too spicy or oily food, or eating stale food.

5. Food Intolerance or Allergy

Some children have difficulty digesting certain substances in food. This condition is called food intolerance. For example, a child with lactose intolerance has difficulty digesting lactose, a type of sugar found in milk and other dairy foods.

Meanwhile, food allergies are a different condition. Food allergies can cause an immune system reaction that can harm the body. Children with food allergies should always avoid these foods.

6. Inflammation of the appendix

Stomach pain can also be a sign that your little one has appendicitis. Usually, the pain starts from the navel and then moves to the lower right side of the stomach. In some cases, stomach pain due to appendicitis is also accompanied by fever or vomiting and loss of appetite. Appendicitis often requires medical treatment in the form of surgery.

7. Infections in Other Parts of the Body

Stomach pain can also be caused by other problems that are outside the stomach area, such as sore throat, pneumonia, ear infections, and coughs.

8. Stress

Stomach pain can also appear when your little one is experiencing stress, for example when he enters a new school, is asked to appear in front of a class, or when he has to face certain tests.

When to See a Doctor?

In general, stomach pain experienced by children is not a symptom of a serious illness and can go away on its own. But Moms need to be vigilant and immediately take your little one to the doctor if he experiences any of the following:

• Stomach pain does not stop for 24 hours.

• The child looks lethargic, pale, sweaty and sleepy.

• The child is not interested in playing and refuses to eat and drink for several hours.

• The child rubs his stomach, especially in the navel.

• Abdominal pain accompanied by symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and fever. (Wieta Rachmatia / SW / Doc. Freepik)
