Cats and Coffee Order: Police Twitter Marathon

October 01, 2021 – dpa

Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) – The Twitter marathon of the police in the northeast uncovered unusual emergency calls on Friday. For example, I called a woman who actually wanted to order coffee. A colleague pointed out to her that she had landed on the emergency number, whereupon she hung up in shock, said a spokeswoman for the Neubrandenburg police headquarters on Friday. In another case, a woman called because she was being followed by kittens on a cycle path. The police have declared that they are not responsible.

The police reported on these and other cases throughout Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as part of a Twitter campaign. Using the hashtag “# Polizei110”, the officers shared calls they had received and operations via a short message service on the Internet. October 1st has been selected as the nationwide police emergency call day. Numerous police authorities in Germany took part in the Twitter campaign.

According to the police spokeswoman, there are bizarre calls to the headquarters every day. These ranged from pizza orders to parents who wanted to have their children locked up because they did not behave. The campaign is intended to help people deal with the emergency call more consciously and avoid unnecessary calls in order not to hinder important operations.
