Catherine Gillet presents her works with enigmatic shapes

As part of the Chemin des arts, the City of Chartres welcomes, at the Saint-Vincent priory, the visual artist Catherine Gillet, originally from Muzy (Eure).

The artist is well known for her etchings with enigmatic shapes, both tense and evanescent. She exhibits drawings, chisel engravings, paintings but also sandstone sculptures. His exhibition, entitled “Vivre Yet” is visible until June 5th.

“During the period of confinement, in 2020, I started to do sculpture. For me, it was like starting a new cycle in my artistic career,” explains Catherine Gillet. The artist confides: “There was a need to immerse oneself in questions around notions such as memory, the fragility of life and the porosity of time…”

The artist was touched by the City’s choice to offer her the space of the Saint-Vincent priory for her exhibition: “I am honored to be part of the Chemin des arts. Le Prieuré is a magnificent exhibition space. A graduate of the Orléans regional art school in 1984, Catherine Gillet has won numerous prizes for her work: Lacourière prize in 2000, encouragement prize from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2008, Paul Gonnard prize in 2016… She exhibited in several countries, including Japan in 2019.
