catering industry closed sooner, fewer people in halls

The cabinet and the regions where the corona virus is most prevalent have agreed on new measures. In the catering industry, no one is allowed in from 00:00, tents have to close at 01:00. In addition, a group may consist of a maximum of 50 people. Insiders reported this after reporting from NOS and RTL Nieuws.

On Thursday, the cabinet held consultations with the chairpersons of the six safety regions in the Randstad, to which many new infections have recently been added. These are Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden, Utrecht, Kennemerland and Hollands Midden.

Additional measures

More details of the measures will be announced on Friday. Then at the beginning of the evening there will be another press conference by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health). Some regions also come up with small additional measures themselves.

The number of infections has been increasing rapidly in recent days. There are serious concerns about the increase in the House of Representatives. On Thursday, 1,756 infections were reported, which equates to 10.1 positive tests for every 100,000 people. It is the first time that this number has exceeded 10. Alarm bells go off at 7 infections per 100,000 people.

In the regions concerned, that number is much higher: in Amsterdam-Amstelland it is now over 27, in Rotterdam over 19 and in Haaglanden over 16.

Spokespersons from several municipalities concerned were unable or unwilling to respond substantively on Thursday evening. They refer to Friday, when more details of the measures will be announced.
