Catalonia will open vaccination to people between 30 and 34 years old on Monday 28

The vaccination campaign is in full swing taking advantage of the largest number of doses available this June. The system of appointment and administration of injections works like a perfect gear and this allows to vaccinate hundreds of thousands of people a day. Starting next Monday, June 28, the Department of Health will open the new age group: people between 30 and 35 years old, those born between 1987 and 1991, will be able to make an appointment. Less than a week ago the age range between 35 and 39 was opened, but you want (and you can) move fast.

The announcement was made this morning by the Secretary of Public Health of Catalonia, Carmen Cabezas, who has specified that her intention is to rapidly lower the age ranges until she reaches 12 years of age. Salut is in a hurry to vaccinate young people because he is concerned the increase in cases observed among them. “We want to get closer to young people as soon as possible and we have to do it in an orderly manner, which is why it is going down by age,” he said. These days are the population groups that are most contagious.

On Thursday of last week the appointment calendar was opened to people between 35 and 39 years old, so next week the decade of the thirties will be completed. Until today, vaccination has already begun in 19% of Catalans in their thirties and 63% among those aged 40-49 years. For these days there were 90% of the appointments taken, so Salut waits for Monday (it will be early in the morning) to open appointments for those aged 30-34 years.

It is to be expected that the following week we will reach our twenties. The non-stop arrival of the vaccines ordered is making it possible to comply with the advancement of vaccination whose objective is to achieve group immunity of 70% of those vaccinated. Cabezas reiterated that it has always been pointed out that the goal would be to reach that percentage of immunized by the end of August.

RECORD DOSE

Yesterday 116,000 were injected and more than 6 million have already been administered in Catalonia

Catalonia will have 602,500 doses this week, while yesterday the daily record was reached since the start of vaccination with 116,000 injections administered in a single day. And the 6 million doses given yesterday were also exceeded: 48.8% of the Catalan population carries one, 30% are already immunized.

But next week it will return to 400,000 weekly doses, because Pfizer has advanced this June doses scheduled for the end of the year in Europe, but in July it returns to normal supplies. However, Cabezas has stated that the rhythm is good.

THE 60-69

Hurry to give them the second dose

The Secretary of Public Health has urged everyone to put both doses. Especially in people aged 60-69 years whose immunization is more delayed when inoculating AstraZeneca. Now, anyone who has injected the first 10 weeks ago can make an appointment for the second dose. Salut also plans to use Pfizer to accelerate the immunization of this group.

Cabezas has pointed out that the hospital pressure drops and the patients in the ucis, because, although they rise among those under 50 years of age, there are few cases. But the increase in cases between the ages of 10 and 30 has already been maintained for a few days and worries Salut, Cabezas has admitted. It has indicated that it should be taken into account in the face of the measures of the coming weeks.

He attributes the increase in cases to the greater mobility and social interaction of young people, now that classes have finished. For example, in Terres de l’Ebre there have been two outbreaks linked to a selectivity party and a class trip, one controlled and the other still under investigation. Barcelona is where there is a greater increase in cases.

Vaccination at the Fair against Covid

This greater social interaction of young people is coupled with the effect of the Delta variant of the virus, which already accounts for 32% of cases sequenced by the Vall d’Hebron 8 hospital in the Barcelona area). This varinate is 67% more transmissible, according to Cabezas. The luck is that young people suffer from covid in a less serious way, but there are also serious cases in those under 50, he recalled, that is why Salut wants to speed up the vaccination of those under 40.

By the way, now that they will be vaccinated at the age when there are more pregnant women, Cabezas and the head of epidemiology of Vall d’Hebron, Magda Campins, have indicated that they continue to advise that in each case the risk of catching covid be assessed or suffering it in a serious way (for example, due to other pathologies). Those who breastfeed are recommended without objection to vaccinate.

PREGNANT

Better, late in the second trimester

Campins has indicated that a study by Vall d’Hebron points out that in pregnant women, more admissions and serious cases have been seen due to covid when they are at the end of the second trimester, so “if the epidemiological situation is good and there are no other pathologies, perhaps the ideal time to get vaccinated would be at the end of the second trimester of pregnancy ”, he said.
