Rugby fans were impatiently awaiting this Perpignan – Castres, the only Top 14 Boxing Day match to be held this Sunday after the postponement the very morning of Toulouse – Stade Français.
At the end of the suspense, it was finally Castres who won, allowing them to return to two points behind Montpellier (3rd) in the standings. The CO had scored the first try by Laveau (21st) responding to the penalty transformed by Melvyn Jaminet at the start of the game.
But the Castres then showed themselves to be undisciplined in the first period, leaving the USAP to take the lead at the break (13-7) on a test by Lam in front of his home crowd and taking several penalties.
Chilachava gives victory to Castres
Castres came back from the break with much better intentions and even thought he had scored a try, again by Laveau, but it was ultimately refused for an unintentional forward. The Castres, without always playing fair, had the merit of not giving up and it was not until the 70th minute for this try, this time from Chilachava, to be validated to win by a point difference (20-19) after having been led for a long time.
