The German Weather Service (DWD) had reported gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour during the carnival procession. In exposed locations, severe gusts of wind of up to 100 kilometers per hour would have to be expected. In the morning the fire brigade moved out to the train line on Grenzstrasse because roof tiles had come loose.

The carnival procession in Alt-Oberhausen last had to pause in 1991 during the first Gulf War. The move-out does not only affect Oberhausen. Essen had the trains in Kettwig and will be canceled on Saturday. Mönchengladbach was one of the first cities to do without a Sunday train. Even the fools of Kö-bustle in Düsseldorf do not sway on Tulip Sunday.

Many jokes will now spend the Carnival Sunday instead of on the streets in their own living room and in the bars. The after-train party in the center of Altenberg does not fall victim to the stormy weather. “We will open”, confirms organizer David Wagner. The Carnival Party starts at 4 p.m. on Hansastraße. Entry to the party costs 8 euros. In recent years, mostly costumed fools have celebrated there.
