Carmelo Anthony Retires as 9th Highest Scorer in NBA History, Leaves Unmatched Legacy

Anthony, who hasn’t played in the NBA this season, is hanging up his shoes by occupying the ninth echelon in scoring in league history.

Only LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, Wilt Chamberlain and Shaquille O’Neal scored more than Anthony, who finished his career with a total of 28,289 points.

Anthony’s legacy is undeniable. He was named one of the 75 greatest players in NBA history, appeared in the All-Star Game 10 times and was named an NBA All-Star 6 times.

And although he has never made the NBA Finals, Anthony has already savored the conquest of a championship.

He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in 2003 after leading Syracuse University to the NCAA title. He contributed to the three Olympic victories of the American formation in Beijing in 2008, in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016.

Anthony was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the 3rd overall draft of 2003. He was part of a historic vintage that also included LeBron James (No. 1), Chris Bosh (No. 4) and Dwyane Wade (No. 5).

The American would normally be inducted into the basketball hall of fame. He averaged 22.5 points per game in the NBA, spending most of his career with the New York Nuggets and Knicks.

Anthony also played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, before concluding his career with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022. No team presented him with an offer last summer .
