Carine was eight months pregnant when she was killed in the couple’s apartment in Vänersborg, which is a town in Västra Götaland in Sweden, in October last year. Osagie’s two children, a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, were in the next room. They overheard the murder.

Osagies was therefore also charged with two counts of aggravated assault on the children.

Convicted

The prosecutor in the trial believed that the motive for the murder was that his cohabitant wanted to leave him. He must then have been afraid of what she might say about him.

– The perpetrator thought that she would leave him and that she would report him in connection with it. It appears from the recording that it was because she had arranged a visit to the crisis center, that he thought she could say things about him during that visit, prosecutor Daniel Veivo Pettersson has stated.

Recorded on tape

Osagie used to record conversations on his cell phone. An eight-minute audio recording was one of the pieces of evidence in the case. In the audio recording, Kelvin asks that the cohabitant not have to say anything about him to employees at the crisis center. Suddenly screams are heard, and Carina prays for her life.

– Do not kill me. Please. Our baby! one hears Carina be in despair.

Aftonbladet’s review of the case documents, shows that several public bodies knew of the violent man.

In 2019, Osagies and his ex-wife were separated. She is the mother of his two children. She also had a child from a previous marriage for whom the murder convict was a stepfather. Between 2018 and 2021, Osagies was reported a total of four times for violence against his son and stepson. The two children still lived with their father.

Met through dating app

Kelvin Osagie and Carine Ndah Ngwe met through a dating app. After a short time, they married. Both are originally from Cameroon.

The verdict from the district court states that the violence you hear on the audio recording lasts for more than two and a half minutes.

«The audio recording shows that she repeatedly prays for her life and says that Kelvin must stop, also for the sake of the children», It says in the judgment.

The court did not trust Kelvin’s claim that he acted in self-defense.

– You can not hear that she is aggressive or outspoken towards him. You hear that it is she who is exposed to violence and that it is she who prays for her life, said prosecutor Veivo Pettersson about the recording.
