Captain America chose his successor at the end of Avengers: Endgame. To wield Captain America’s shield and have the responsibility for it, you have to be ” a good guy “. This has already been clarified several times during the MCU and in particular in Captain America: First Avenger where Steve Rogers was chosen for his unequaled moral sense. The other pretender to the shield, James Barnes, alias Bucky, has a far too dark past compared to the Falcon who has always had an exemplary behavior.

Falcon has proven ‘courage, loyalty and reliability’, says Chris Evans

Chris Evans, spoke with Variety about Sam Wilson’s rise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recalled that the Falcon has always ” answered the call to action time and time again during the MCU. The actor then added that: “He proved his courage, his loyalty and his reliability on several films. Sam gave so much, and he also lost a lot. He believes in something bigger than himself, and that kind of humility is needed to carry the shield. “. That is what is said. Chris Evans is convinced that Sam Wilson as the new Captain America was the right choice to make.

Thus, Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) will have a big role to play in phase 4 of the MCU. The new Captain America seizes the shield in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier broadcast from next March 19 on Disney+. Fans will then be able to confirm for themselves if the choice of Steve Rogers is indeed a good one.

Regardless, Bucky will always be by Sam Wilson’s side even though he didn’t receive the shield. As a reminder, the plot of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the direct continuation of the events of Avengers: Endgame. Sam Wilson is therefore likely to experience a period of transition as the new Captain America and major character in the MCU.
