The most secure way of terminating your previous motor insurance is by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt. So you have proof in hand that your cancellation was received by the insurer by November 30th. The good old fax is still widespread in the insurance industry. Termination by email has also been possible for a few years, but there are a few things to consider.
It is important that the policyholder can be identified via the email. If a letter of termination comes from the e-mail address [email protected] and there is no real name, address or insurance number in the e-mail, it looks bad. So it’s best to put all the relevant data in the email and ask for confirmation that it has been received on time. The following points should be included in such a letter:
- Your name and address
- Insurance address
- Current date
- Number of the insurance policy
- License Plate
- Reason for termination
