INNSBRUCK – Canadian skier Valérie Grenierová has a broken humerus, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee and a partially torn lateral ligament after a heavy fall in Sunday’s World Cup supergiant slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The twenty-seven-year-old competitor announced this on Instagram from the hospital in Innsbruck, where she will undergo an operation on her injured hand on Wednesday. He will have surgery on his knee after returning to Canada.

Grenier was injured two days after she tied for third place with Italy’s Sofia Goggia and Austria’s Christina Ager in the Cortina downhill. At the beginning of the year, the native of Ottawa came in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora for the second victory in the World Cup of her career. She is sixth in the discipline rating.

The Canadian is another skier whose season ended early due to injury. Petra Vlhová, Norwegians Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Mária Therese Tvibergová, Austrian Marco Schwarz and Swiss Corinne Suterová, who injured her knee in Friday’s descent in Cortina, will no longer appear on the slopes this year.

Grenierová already has one serious injury behind her. In February 2019, she broke her leg in several places during downhill training at the World Championships in Aare.
