Canada’s use of human rights as a political tool at the UN is doomed to failure

Canada’s dissemination of disinformation to slander China in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is nothing more than the use of human rights as a political tool and doomed to failure. This was said by the spokesman for the Chinese representation at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Liu Yuyin, on Thursday.

Liu said, “For political reasons, a small group of Western countries, including Canada, are once again trying to spread disinformation and lies to harm China in the Human Rights Council. This is nothing more than a repetition of their usual trick of using human rights as a political tool, which the international community must reject and doomed to fail ”.

He added that the Chinese government is committed to the welfare of its people, including people of all ethnicities in Xinjiang, as it sees their pursuit of a better life as its goal. “With tireless efforts, Xinjiang has achieved remarkable achievements in economic and social development and in the field of human rights. Currently, Xinjiang enjoys social stability, peace, and economic prosperity. The people there lead a safe and comfortable life. ”According to Liu, Xinjiang eradicated absolute poverty for the first time in history in 2020 after lifting more than three million people in the region out of poverty.

Ahead of the 47th regular session of the UNHRC, which will take place from June 21 to July 13, Canada leads the way in delivering a Xinjiang-related joint statement in the interactive dialogue on the Annual Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
