Canada: Second round in Peru “was free, fair and open”

The Government of Canada spoke, through its embassy in Peru, on the Second round of the presidential elections held in our country on June 6.

Through a statement on his Twitter account, he affirmed that “the Peruvian electoral process on June 6 was free, fair and open, a fact that has been reaffirmed again by the Organization of American States (OAS).”

He also expressed his support for the work that the electoral authorities have been doing, such as the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the National Elections Jury (JNE).

Finally, he pointed out that he awaits the final decision of the Peruvian organizations and to work together with the next government.

Unfinished process

The National Elections Jury (JNE) has in its hands the deliberation of the minutes questioned by the political organizations Popular Force Y Free Peru, so you cannot yet proceed with the proclamation of the winner.

After the June 6 elections, Fujimorism has supported the discourse of an alleged fraud at the table and asked to eliminate nearly 200,000 votes from areas where the majority voted for Pedro Castillo.

The final count of the votes carried out by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) left the candidate Free Peru with some 40,000 votes over his rival, Keiko Fujimori.

Changes in the plenary session of the JNE

On the eve, the supreme prosecutor Luis Arce Córdova presented his decline to be part of the plenary session of the National Elections Jury. Through a letter, he indicated that his decision sought to prevent the representation he exercises and his votes “from being used to validate false constitutional deliberations” in said electoral body.

According to the Organic Law of the National Elections Jury, the members of the plenary ETC. they cannot resign during electoral processes, referendums or other popular consultations. Faced with this situation, Arce Córdova requested that the alternate member to represent the Public Ministry be appointed in his place.

This Thursday, the president of the ETC., Jorge Luis Salas, suspended Luis Arce as a full member of the Plenary of this body and decided to call for the representative “that provisionally corresponds.”

Hours later, the prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida, Avalos, announced the incorporation of the supreme prosecutor Victor Raúl Rodríguez Monteza as representative of the Public Ministry in the plenary session of the National Elections Jury, replacing the suspended member.
