In this regard, Dr. Salah Ramadan, a consultant urologist, confirmed that prostatectomy for cancer treatment adversely affects men’s sexual health, to the extent that it can lead to infertility.

1- The lack of an erection of the penis

When the prostate is removed, the surgeon may have to remove the nerve cells surrounding it, which threatens the man after surgery with erectile dysfunction or its absence at all.

2- Semen reflux

One of the vital functions that the prostate gland is responsible for is the production of fluids that nourish sperm and transport it outside the body, from the opening of the penis to the ejaculation process.

Therefore, after prostatectomy, a man may experience difficulty in ejaculation, which leads to the reflux of semen.

According to the Cancer Research UK website, a man will not be able to procreate through normal sexual intercourse after a prostatectomy.

The reason is that during a prostatectomy, the surgeon removes glands called seminal vesicles, which makes sperm unable to pass through the tubes and out of the body.

This is why andrologists call the orgasm experienced by men who have had their prostate removed dry orgasm or retrograde ejaculation.
