The Australian stays on top of things in difficult conditions.
The final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii was played in unusually wet conditions. On the otherwise mostly paradisiacal chain of islands in the Pacific, it poured out of buckets on Sunday, which meant that the attendants could only complete the round with great effort. The last group needed only for the last two holes to be played Brendan Steele and Cameron Smith an hour because the now-soaked greens had to be cleared of the water.
But those in charge performed almost as impressively as the winner of the first regular PGA Tour tournament of the new year. Smithfrom the top group coped best with the difficult conditions and thanks to one 68 (-2) the leader after three laps Steele (71, +1) caught up with secured his first individual title on the PGA Tour with a par on the first extra hole. The Australian, who was already victorious at the Zurich Classic team event in New Orleans in 2017, received more than $ 1 million. “I just had to stay tuned,” said the new number five in the FedExCup. “It seemed like nobody had played good golf.”
“We all love you.” ??????
